Our History

Founded in 2011, AFWAFF was established with a vision to empower women, strengthen families, and address social and economic inequality within communities. The organization was founded by Dr. Claire Nkehsera, whose vision grew from witnessing how disparities in education, income, wealth, influence, and access to opportunities can create barriers that prevent individuals and families from improving their circumstances.

Recognizing that lasting change requires more than individual effort, AFWAFF was created on the principle of self-emancipation and collective responsibility, empowering people with the knowledge, skills, resources, and opportunities needed to transform their lives while encouraging communities to work together so that no one is left behind.

Since its founding, AFWAFF has worked to break down barriers to opportunity by educating and empowering women and families, mobilizing community resources, and collaborating with stakeholders to support underserved and vulnerable populations. Central to this mission is our commitment to equality, inclusiveness, multiculturalism, and the elimination of racial discrimination. We envision communities where diversity is celebrated and every individual is treated with dignity and respect.

Our work places particular emphasis on building strong, resilient, and economically empowered families. Through workshops, mentorship, educational seminars, entrepreneurship initiatives, and startup support for women and small businesses, AFWAFF helps individuals develop the tools and confidence necessary to achieve greater independence and sustainable success.

More than a decade after its founding, AFWAFF continues to believe that investing in women and families creates a powerful ripple effect.
