According to the World Health Organization, Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment. Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is to be well informed about the COVID-19 virus, the disease it causes and how it spreads. International Organizations report that the hunger crisis is being deepened by this pandemic.
The COVID-19 Pandemic is bringing more hunger hotspots and epi-centers all around the globe. A research carried out by OXFAM International showed that by the end of the year 2020, twelve thousand people per day could die of hunger that is linked to the Pandemic COVID-19, than will die from the disease itself. We must not forget that, hunger is often linked to extreme poverty.
Considering one of AFWAFF's purpose, Poverty alleviation, the Organization couldn't stay indifferent to the above finding. The campaign CHALLENGE COVID-19 was launched. AFWAFF is engaged in a fundraiser to provide basic necessities like food, face masks, hand sanitizers, bleach etc. to communities in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada and Yaounde, Cameroon.
Founded by AFWAFF, Gardens for Black Families (GBF) is an ongoing community based project in collaboration with Cameroonian, Ghanian and Nigerian Associations, funded by the City of Kitchener.
AFWAFF impacts women and families through public speaking, seminars, workshops, counseling sessions.
